Settling in Nicely in Paradise
Lil’ Lang Lang has happily adjusted to Southern California. New experiences, playdates, sun + good food, what more can a baby ask for!?
Last weekend was Langdon’s first time in Little Tokyo, located in downtown Los Angeles. *GASP* SHOGUN SANTA WAS IN TOWN!!!! OMG. Do you know how excited I was? Pretty excited. Langdon was not so excited.
Langdon was in a super cranky mood because….IT IS HOT IN L.A., Y’ALL!!!! Coming from 34 degree daytime temps in Vancouver, we were sweating our pantalones off!!! Meanwhile Angelenos were wearing sweaters + fleeces. Ay mi dios. Frowny face got a super amazing snowman balloon made special for him…
Stone cold not impressed. The Rastafarian cheered me on shouting, “Don’t let him win!!! Fight on mommy!!!”. “YEEEAH!!!” I screamed as I pumped my fist in the air.
Grandma, Auntie, Langdon + I went to lunch at one of my favorite Little Tokyo restaurants, Kouraku. I lived in Little Tokyo for four years + I ate there often! It is a cozy little hole in the wall with the best Japanese comfort food in the city!
Yes my mom likes to wear her sunglasses inside – Yakuza Style.
Exciting times – Langdon I threw a towel at baby purees! A friend told us her baby was doing baby led weaning. I had never heard of it, so did some research + asked her a million questions because I was sick of making, freezing + spoon feeding purees! Baby led solid feeding made sense to me. It’s been a week + so far success!!! Langdon loves eating pears – he rocks back + forth + kind of hums happily as he eats.
You definitely have to be careful of what you give the baby + monitor them closely. But it’s awesome because he eats what I eat + we can sit at the table + have a meal together! Plus, vegetables he hated as purees (green beans, broccoli), he devours now! Here he is eating green beans + mashed potato in a kimono straight jacket bib my mom made for him.
If you’re curious about baby led solids, read more about it here. Every baby is different + it’s not for everyone, but it has been a really awesome experience for us so far!
Langdon is enjoying the warm sun on his half Canadian body. At first he was like, “What is that infernal glowing orb in the sky!!! IT BURNS!!!!”. But now it makes him smile! By the way do you not love his hockey pjs?! Whatta Canuck!!!
My best friend’s girls outgrew their toy piano + gave it to Langdon. He doesn’t have any toys that light up or make noise in Vancouver. Well let me tell you, he is bat sh*t insane over this piano!!! Now he rocks out to it’s sweet tunes + head bangs to it’s righteous beats!
Langdon + I have had lots of playdates with friends I haven’t seen for 2 1/2 years since I’ve been sent to exile in Canada while my immigration papers were being processed. At my best friend’s house getting his first kiss from a golden lab!!!
Last night our family went to our treasured Mexican restaurant that we’ve been going to since we were kids. I’ve been dying for Mexican food because good Mexican food DOES NOT EXIST ANYWHERE IN CANADA. IT DOESN’T. Now I feel like I’ve officially arrived home. Latigo Kid’s newest convert!
In time I can’t wait to share with my son all the special things about Los Angeles that helped shape me to become the person I am today. I feel so lucky for this holiday season! And it will be even merrier when Landon’s dad joins us in a week!!!! Woot! Hope the start of everyone’s holidays have been stress free + jolly!!!! XOXO
