Vancouver Christmas Events 2017

Why am I writing a blog post when I should be packing suitcases for my flight tomorrow?

Because I’m manic + insane.  That’s why.  Tomorrow morning the kids + I have to wake up at 5 am to catch a flight to Los Angeles to be with my family for the holidays.  I’d say I’m 1/4 of the way packed.  SOB.

So I’ll make this quick.  They say it was one of the rainiest Novembers on record but it didn’t truly feel that way.  We’ve been trying to spend a lot of days out doors.  Our Strong Start (a BC program that helps parents participate in a preschool like environment that readies a child for kindergarten) has a forest program once a week.  Rain or shine.  It’s kind of psychotic taking an early walker + sensitive toddler into the muddy, wet, cold forest.  Dressing them in multiple layers.  One falls.  The other cries.  Both want to be picked up etc.  In this picture Lang fell over a log.  I tried to pick him up to cuddle him but he refused + wanted to cry it out.  Fair enough.  Go for it, buddy.

Clementine is like WHAT. IS. YOUR. PROBLEM.

There’s story time, songs + snacks!

And this program is FREE!  Lang loves forest school.  I swear.  How can this muddy, happy smiling face be wrong?

Many visits to our favorite beach in Point Roberts, Washington.

Wrestling kelp as Clementine cheers on.

That blustery day there was a sailboat race that was beautiful + exciting to watch!

The day of the East Vancouver Culture Crawl was POURING.

When you live in Vancouver you still gotta get out there!  Culture Crawl is a day to visit artist studios.  Here’s the gang chilling at one of our friend’s jewelry studios.

Good, quick fun.  Get cultured, get out is my motto!  Not really, haha I just made that up.

Our membership to the Museum of Anthropology is well worth it.  Grumpy Lang because I told him not to touch anything for the 1,000th time.

A magical place.  So many wonderful artifacts.

The Vancouver German Christmas Market is always a must every year.

My twinkly babe.

Great food, unique gift shopping (our tradition is to get a Xmas ornament here every season) + a beautiful new location by the water!

The next day, Burnaby Village Museum for their Christmas displays!  On Dasher!  On Dancer!

Ok, be warned.  Their carousel is HELLA FAST!!!!!  No joking I was kind of freaking out a little.

The lights in the village were so charming!

Langdon is having a bro down with an ex member of ZZ Top.  Ahem, I meant Father Christmas.  LOL.

My WOOOOONDERFUL sister in law hosted an early Christmas family breakfast since we won’t be in town for the holidays.  Here is a classic representation of our little family.

Why are family photos so impossible?  Big ups to professional photographers.

Breakfast feast!  My SIL is an angel.  For real.  Is this not making you drool????

I am so lucky.

One last visit to Point Roberts with Clementine.  There was a bounty of gorgeous kelp on the shores!

Snack time.  We were the only ones on the beach.  The fog was dense.  And it was freezing.

My little girl didn’t want to leave but her poor little hands were turning red from the cold!

Last night was our final Christmas event in Vancouver for 2017.  There’s a family in North Vancouver that set up over 100,000 lights since 2010.  Through donation they’ve raised money for charities + buy bags of groceries for those in need.  You’ve got to see this place to believe it.

The kids loved it.  It was so wonderful to see their little faces full of awe + wonder.

Clementine looks scared, but believe me – she loved all of it!

It will be hard to part with their daddy for a couple weeks, but he will join us in Los Angeles for Christmas!

Thanks for reading!  Prepare yourselves for California posts coming soon!

Hello Shelli: Thanks for sharing before your California Christmas. I hope that you and your family are not impacted by the dreadful fires. So sad the devastation and life/lives lost. I wish you and yours all the best for 2018. So glad that you were enjoying the Van pre Christmas activities. I think you are gradually becoming a Vancouverite! I think that if you write a book (even a small one) it will sell well. Your story is an interesting one with your entertaining style! Cheers friend, Vicky
