Pregnancy – Our Maternity Photos

If you’re vacillating over whether or not to have maternity photos taken – TAKE THEM!!! I’m so happy we did!
I wasn’t sure if I wanted to have professional maternity photos taken. “Will it be cheesy? Will it be expensive? Should I just have Jeff take pictures of me???” were thoughts that went through my head. Then I rationalized, “Well, this may possibly be the only child we have + I don’t want to regret the lack of pictures. This is once in a lifetime!”.
How do you find a maternity photographer??? I didn’t have any recommendations, so I basically just googled Maternity Photographer Vancouver + searched through what felt like a billion websites. This is what I DIDN’T want:
I didn’t want to be swathed in peach organza or have a boudoir shoot. If that’s your thing – more power to you! But it’s definitely not my cuppa tea.
After days + hours of searching the internet I found + fell in love with Ella Haus here in Vancouver. Check out her website that had me swooming! Click here!
I love Ella’s choice of locations, her composition, use of light + overall feel! I was so lucky to be able to get a booking with her. We had to keep postponing, due to the inconsistent weather in Vancouver, but we held out! I was 35 weeks pregnant + obviously the baby wasn’t going anywhere – so the shoot was on!!!
I chose Boundary Bay as our location because I love going there to watch all the birds, sit among the driftwood + wander along the rippled patterns of the mudflats. Click here for a link to my post about Boundary Bay!
When Ella sent me the photos I screamed + cried with excitement! Here we go….I hope you guys love them as much as we do!!!
We brought Jeff’s antique Mennonite quilt as a prop.
One of my favorite pictures of the two of us EVER!!!!
Jeff acted as my stylist, adjusting my clothes + as my hair person.
The earlier part of the day was overcast + moody. Then the clouds opened up into a gorgeous sunny day. It was perfect…
Come on out baby!!!! It’s time!!!
Sorry for my ugly blog watermark on each picture. I literally loved every single picture Ella took, but I managed to whittle it down for the blog! Ella was so sweet, has such a calming presence + made us feel comfortable as we chatted with her about our life + the future. It was like having your pictures taken by a friend! Jeff + I had so much fun that day + it really was a special memory! I can’t wait because we will be reunited with her again to take pictures of our newborn (whenever he/she arrives)!!! I highly recommend her Pacific Northwesters!!!! I’m really, really, really, really overjoyed with how the maternity shoot went. So if you are debating on whether or not to professionally capture this amazing moment in your life – GO FOR IT!!! XOXO
These are fabulous! I love the one of you both standing in the water, with Jeff fussing over you – although they’re all great. When you’re here in the summer you should hunt for some barn wood picture frames – they’d be great for some of these if you’re getting prints.
No sign of impending arrival?!
OOOH, BARN WOOD!!! Good idea!!! I see a summer treasure hunting adventure in our future! Baby is still in belly!!!!!
Such beautiful photos!!! What a great treasure to keep forever! Thanks for sharing!

Coming from a professional photographer that means a lot coming from you, dad!!!! I’m glad you approve! Love ya!
Gorgeous photos! I love the one of you standing alone in the marsh…stunning! You guys really are a very photogenic family 🙂
I take it STILL no baby?!
STILL NO BABY!!!!! Usually I am really, really, really, really unphotogenic. My family was shocked at how many shots our photographer was able to get out of me! Har har!!!
Beautiful photos, Shelli! I love the location you chose and don’t think I’m familiar with it, so will have to check it out one day! Kinda miffed you didn’t ask me to style your photo shoot. 😦 (Not really haha!) ~M.
Haha – you crazy! Boundary Bay is one of my favorite spots!!!

A couple of days ago thoughts of you pushing intruded into my thoughts out of nowhere, so I thought for sure you were having your baby. I guess the Lord just wanted me to pray for you and Jeff and baby 🙂 Love the photos, so peaceful and natural.
