My Love for Matthew McConaughey

Matthew McConaughey is having his moment in the sun this awards season. I’m having my I-Told-You-So moment + I will tell you about the McConaughey Experience that I had one summer.
I’ve never given up on Matthew McConaughey. All my friends would be like, “Man, I don’t get that one! He is so cheesy! You just love the cheese!”. I was like, “You don’t understand, he’s genius!”. No one believed me.
By the way, my long time celebrity crush is method actor Daniel Day-Lewis.
So you’d think, why Matthew McConaughey? What do you mean? It’s like Daniel Day-Lewis + him are separated at birth! Can’t you tell? Haha.
It all began with “Dazed and Confused”. It was all about the peach denim. So amazing.
Then there was “A Time to Kill”. His performance in that movie showed that there was more to him than just peach denim!
After that was a series of horrible, forgettable movies like “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days”, “Sahara” + “The Wedding Planner”.
Major sad face. But I never lost the faith. It was just a matter of time.
Oh, what about my McConaughey Experience? I was driving down PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) in Malibu. Traffic was extremely slow + there was a long line up of cars. “What the heck is going on?!” I wondered as I tried to look ahead for the cause of this traffic. I saw a large white van + cynically said, “Oh, it’s a follow up van. They must be shooting. Ugh.”.
Working in the film industry, I recognized the follow up van. It’s a big white transportation vehicle filled with hair, makeup, costumes + other film crew that follow the rigged car containing the actors while they’re filming. I have sat in these vans many a time.
After a while, they finally let us pass. “I gotta see who’s shooting.” I thought to myself. First I passed the follow up van + as I passed the car with the actors, Matthew McConaughey was in the driver’s seat + at that moment when I looked at him, he turned, looked at me + gave me a huge smile. I was struck blind. “Aaack, my eyes!!!”.
I KID YOU NOT!!! And it was like in slow motion…so bright!!! So shiny!!! Glowing, golden locks! Dazzling pearly smile! I almost peed my pants for real.
Well this year Jeff + I have actually managed to see some movies that are up for awards. Matthew McConaughey is nominated for this year’s Oscars for “Dallas Buyers Club”. He is so, so, so amazing in this role, y’all. They shot the movie with a limited budget + on a 25 day schedule which is totally insane. There were almost no rehearsals + McConaughey totally nailed it. You’ve got to see it.
And you know I’ve got a thing for vintage western wear, moustaches + aviator sunglasses so it’s a complete win-win situation.
And “Wolf of Wall Street”? He pretty much steals every scene that he’s in. Not to mention how amazing his hair looks in the movie. Don’t worry it’s not a spoiler – but did you know that the weird chest beating chant that he hums in the film is something McConaughey does in real life before he shoots a scene? Leonardo DiCaprio observed this super amazing ritual on set + wanted it added into the film.
I’ve got to add in his acceptance speech for “Magic Mike” at the Spirit Awards in 2013. It will make you smile, his intro is classic. The majority of films today are total crap + what he says about independent film making will warm your heart. Big budget films can suck it.
He is such a freak + an eccentric. And a previously underestimated actor. Jeff can’t even dispute these facts, so he doesn’t get jealous because I think he might have a little man crush himself. I never watch the Oscars, but on March 2nd I’m going to be rooting for Matthew McConaughey for Best Actor!

I confess, I have a terrible soft spot for “The Wedding Planner” and “Ghosts of Girlfriends Past” even though I know they’re dreadful. I’ve crushed on MMcC since he was busted playing stoned naked bongos 15 years ago. Go MMcC! Bring your easy golden smile unto the world.
If he’d looked directly at me, I may have exploded. You’re so lucky.
I heard about the sequel! Of course you would understand the free spirit that is McConaughey!!! When he smiled at me, my entire head DID almost combust!
I must admit, I’ve got new-found respect for him after watching Dallas Buyers Club. I couldn’t help wondering though (and actually you’ve just confirmed it!) whether that character in The Wolf of Wall Street was actually just him, playing himself. LOL.
He’s such a lovable weirdo!
He was filming around Calgary recently! Alas, I didn’t run into him, either. 😛 But I read an interview where he talked about how he brought his family with him – he seems like a good dad!
I haven’t seen any of his recent stuff, but I really enjoy Tropic Thunder and Fool’s Gold. And I did like Sahara and the Wedding Planner, although I saw the Wedding Planner when I was planning my own wedding, so that might have influenced me. 🙂 I also remember liking Rein of Fire, but that was a long time ago now.
I know! Remember the Christopher Nolan movie that I was supposed to work on that summer, but stupid immigration wouldn’t let me? It was that one!!! I could have had an even more amazing McConaughey Experience!!!
Oh, that’s so sad!
Truly. Le sigh….
Yup, howdy, Nan, the Fam recently watched The Dallas
Buyers Club, and needless to say can believe why, M.Mac
and Leto are winning so many awards, WOW, both these
jocko’s knocked it out of the park, kudos 2 them and best
believe they will wind-up with OSCARS….boo’YAAAH !!!!!!
Haha! I’m glad you guys liked it!
How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is one of my favorites! I love sappy “formula” films. Sorry, I just can’t help it. I love when Kate pretends she’s vegetarian, and when she does the “plaid family” with “Krul”. Even my husband said he enjoyed it….but perhaps he was just humoring me. 🙂
I saw a How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days board game at a thrift store once!!! Haha! I must admit I’m not a huge romantic comedy fan, but there are a choice few that I enjoy!
