Yaletown + Around

Jeff’s dad was visiting from the east coast + the three of us had a downtown Vancouver kind of day!

Lots of fashionable boutiques, restaurants + businesses make for great way to idle your time in Yaletown.  I haven’t had the chance to explore it much, so lunch in Yaletown sounded like a fun idea!  I love the old industrial brick buildings, it reminds me a lot of a street in downtown Los Angeles close to where I used to live.Vancouver - 01

We popped in a couple shops.  Jeff needs an old school, classic shaped flat cap!  He has a bunch of modern, weird shaped ones that I HATE with a passion!!!  I’m pretty particular + opinionated in case you haven’t noticed.Vancouver - 02

Jeff + dad in front of The Flying Pig.  There’s also a location in Gastown!  So hungry!Vancouver - 03

The decor is modern/rustic – so very now, non?Vancouver - 05

Don’t be concerned about the emptiness of the restaurant!  It was really bustling when we arrived – full of stylish fashionable people + ladies who lunch.  I was able to grab pics when rush hour was over.Vancouver - 07

The Flying Pig was recommended to me by my fabulous foodie friend, Kim!  We met in costumes in Los Angeles + she is stylish, sassy + funny as hell!  Check out her blog According to Kim to see her pics of major drool worthy food porn, fashion + glamorous fun!  Here we are together in the good old days on the set of a film.Vancouver - 16

And no, we aren’t taking selfies in a gross bathroom – it’s a SET of a bathroom!  A faux bathroom!  Is Kim not the cutest?  I call her my Chinese Betty Boop.  Miss you Kimmie!

Jeff had the pasta special + Brian had the halibut!Vancouver - 06

I had the Braised Beef Shortrib Jumbo Macaroni with broccoli rabe + cabernet mushroom cream sauce.  It looks like snails + innards, but I’m telling you it was all perfectly cooked + sooooo decadent!!!Vancouver - 08

Brian treated us for lunch – thank you Brian!!!  So with bellies full we departed Yaletown + went off to search for a museum to visit!

If you’re visiting Vancouver, check museum websites because most are closed on Mondays!  The Maritime Museum was closed, but we took a short walk around the bay.Vancouver - 09

Moody…gloomy…Vancouver - 10

A shot of downtown Vancouver + Burrard bridge.Vancouver - 11

The Vancouver Art Gallery was opened so we had a quick looky loo.Vancouver - 12

A couple floors were closed due to new exhibits being installed.  But we all really enjoyed the Kimsooja exhibit that was open.  A conceptual + performance artist of Korean heritage her art challenges identity, the human body + it’s relationship to the world expressed through textiles, fabric + video.   That’s a total oversimplification but I don’t know how else to explain it when I’m being distracted from my husband singing Frank Zappa’s “Valley Girl” at me very loudly while I’m trying to type.Kimsooja

Gargoyles on the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver.Vancouver - 14

Jeff is either tired from work or is looking at the gargoyles.Vancouver - 15

It was a nice visit with Jeff’s dad!  There is much more exploration of downtown Vancouver to be had, but until then au revoir mes amis!

  3. I’m looking for a hat like that for my next steampunk outfit! I’m doing something super casual with boots, pants, suspenders, and a billowy old shirt of Trevor’s. I’m very excited about it. 🙂

Hi Shelli I already told Ken we have to go on a trip to Vancouver, and he agreed but only because he said that is where we will catch a cruise line to Alaska. You make it all look so fantastic! And my clothes are so boring… I’ll have to update before I visit anywhere trendy like Yaletown. 🙂 I’ll have to try looking at gargoyles in that position to see if it lends a new perspective on them.
