Debbie in the Country

Yes I have many excuses for being an inconsistent blogger! My 1st friend to come visit me from the US was in town + we were having too many adventures!
Debbie is one of my OG homies from Los Angeles. We used to hang tight – click here + here for some of our LA fun times! She lived in Echo Park, I lived in Little Tokyo – a 10 minute drive apart. Now, she’s returned to New York + I’m in…….Black Diamond, Alberta! So far apart!!! Come share my world, Debbie!!!
Note to self, when picking up a friend at the airport that is an hour drive away from your tiny prairie town, check the plane’s status online. I didn’t do this of course. Debbie’s flight was delayed 2 1/2 hours due to sketchy weather, so I pretty much read magazines for 2 1/2 hours + twiddled my thumbs.
Woosh! Finally, the plane had landed! I ushered a travel worn Debbie in front of the horse statue in the airport to commemorate her arrival into Calgary! She was like, “Wha? Huh? Wha?”. I practically pushed her in front of the statue, took the picture before she knew it + then unceremoniously shoved her towards my car. Welcome, Debbie, welcome!!!!
The next day we were catching up, eating, chatting + didn’t get out the door till 2pm! We had a chill day of walking around Black Diamond. The next couple pictures are washed out because someone (i.e. Jeff – curses!) changed the setting on my camera! Grrrr. Here’s our “Black Diamond”. Ta-daaaaa!!!!
Glitzy, no?! It was blazing hot that day – like Los Angeles hot! We got us some ice cream + ate it in the shade. Black Diamond has some murals – I found a cute wall of baguettes (random, I know) + fashion photo shoot time was on!!!!
Washed out, but it gave the picture kind of a cool look. Isn’t Debbie adorbs???
After ice cream, we walked up to my friend’s house. This house is literally paradise in the prairies!!!
When we arrived, my buddy had a spread of veggies, cheese + wine awaiting us! Faboo!!! Debbie got into zen mode in their dreamy summer oasis.
She was charming them with her witty, hilarious city gal sass!!!!
OMG, Debbie cracks me the heck up! Politics, pop culture, history, Matt Damon – you name it, we were discussing it!
My friend has a crazy, free spirit green thumb + I really want her house + her garden – it’s pretty much my dream. Wouldja just look at these peonies??!!! TO DIE FOR!!!! GORGEOUS!!!
They have really carved out their own little piece of heaven. A cute yellow farm house, a terraced garden, flowers + veggies just bursting out of every patch of earth! From the inside of the patio, surrounded by all the greenery, it felt so private + lush! Truly a secret garden!!!
It was getting late – we could have sat there forever talking! We went out to the front + picked some kale, green beans, onions + whatnot.
And fresh catnip too!!!! Turkey Leg is all blissed out. Megu floats along on a haze of this fresh catnip!!! Utter joy!!!
The #1 best way to spend a summer evening!!! In the next episode – Debbie in the City!!! Calgary, y’all!!!! Stay tuned!!!

I want my friend’s garden too!!!! Yes, it’s nice to have a city mouse come visit – it gave me a different perspective!
Hey slacker! Nice to see you out and about on wordpress land again, hehe (not that we can talk!). Wall of Baguettes sounds like part of my ideal home interior. Maybe a nice Wall of Cheese in the office. And Wall of Meat in the living room. Mmm….
