Spock Days 2013

Did I say Spock Days?! Why yes indeedy do I did!!!!
Oh, first off I wanted to thanks to everyone for their well wishes + prayers for Megumi!!!!
It’s been a harrowing past couple of weeks, thus the lack in posts. I took my little fuzzy bug to the vet again yesterday for a checkup + X-rays. Looks like things are moving along + progressing! She’s eating + drinking (not much, mind you) + getting perkier + perkier by the day! Who knows what the causes could have been, but with the vets’ suggestions, prescriptions, + concern, Megu has been given all the care she could need!!!! Whatever was causing her blockage has moved on + it seems like she is on the road to recovery!!!!! Thank you everyone – she couldn’t have done it without all of your love!!!!
Since Megu was feeling better, I was in great need to venture out of the house! My buddy Michelle + I took the long drive out to the town of Vulcan for the Spock Days Parade. I’ve made a friend out in the tiny town of Black Diamond + she made me a little pin so I could represent, since I don’t have any Star Trek swag to wear!
Thanks, Amy!!!! I wore it with pride!!! Okay, there are too many amazing pictures from Saturday so I’m going to abbreviate the heck out of them. So, Vulcan is REALLY serious about being the Star Trek Capital of the World. I mean, check out this font on a government building.
“Vulcan Authority”? Hey, they mean it, y’all. But nay, the town of Vulcan came WAY before the television show – it is a tiny little town in the middle of the prairies. About an hour drive from my little town – it was named in 1915 for the Roman god of fire – Vulcan.
The streets are lined with the Enterprise emblem.
Towns people of Vulcan waiting for the parade to begin.
Eeeeek!!! I LOVE a parade!!!!!
Okay I just want to say right now that I am the WORST Star Trek fan in the universe!!! Michelle is going to be so mad at me because I’m going to butcher this post with my flaming ignorance!!!! I even worked on Star Trek (2009) + the crew always mocked me for never learning the names of the cast (Doctor Zulu? UhurU????). Here’s a green girl!
You can all correct me at your leisure!!!! L.L.A.P!!!! Which Michelle informed me stands for Live Long And Prosper! DUH!!!!!!
“Where else will you find cowboys + Trekkies together???” asked Michelle. Too true!!!
Trekkie spectators with Vulcan ears.
Colm Meaney was at the parade from Star Trek the Next Generation!!! He is also on Jeff’s show Hell on Wheels so you could imagine my enthusiasm.
These local girls were on the hockey team float + let me tell you – they were HURLING candies at the crowd like missiles!!!
Innocent youths methinksnot. Sinister….anyway there were a bevy of peeps representing at the parade.
I had to include this picture of a sparkly My Little Pony star butt moment + the seated dude across the way seemingly pointing at me saying, “Heeeeeeeyyyyy”.
This high school rock band was the best…
And the disenchanted angsty teen lead singer half-heartedly warbling Boston’s, “More Than a Feeling” in the mic. Too good.
Grimacing bikers pretending not to enjoy themselves…
Ravenous children frothing at the mouth waiting for free candy to be tossed at their feet like it was Halloween on steroids…
Even the Vulcan pool gets a float for godssake…
The parade ended + Michelle + I wandered around the tiny town. Aaaaa, the Spock bust.
Every retail window in Vulcan has a Star Trek theme!!!
Yeah, it’s the real deal here.
The museum Trekcetrera was set to open on Saturday, but unfortunately due to unfoerseen circumstances the opening was delayed. Michelle + I happened to catch a press conference in front of the museum at the most opportune moment!
I asked these Trekkies about what the tags hanging around their necks were for. They looked at me like I was a complete ignoramous. Apparently there’s different levels of tickets you can buy that allows you photo ops + autographs like at Comic Expo. Okay, whatever chill mon!!!!
But they graciously let me take a picture of them in their starship regalia – FORGIVEN!!!! The press conference was starting. I was super pissed about the press getting all up in my photographing bizznezz earlier during the parade. I competitively vowed to not let them get the upper hand on me this time around!!!
I WAS FRONT + CENTER, Y’ALL!!! Just cuz I wanted to prove a point! Here’s a picture of all the fans on the sidelines.
Robert Picardo + Ethan Phillips from Star Trek Voyager were there to accept their bronze plates – they were HILARIOUS + crazy charmismatic.
I had no idea who they were prior + Michelle thought it was completely ironic that I had the best seat in the house! Plus, I didn’t understand 3/4 of what they were saying in their speeches + all of the Trekkie fans were smiling + laughing – I didn’t get the jargon, so I just smiled, nodded + clapped when warranted!
After the speeches from the press conference, Michelle + I wandered off. Here’s happy little me – I don’t know who’s face I’m supposed to represent on the sad, super patched up sign!
Vulcan’s visitor center filled with souvenirs + whatnot.
It truly is a beautiful little prairie town – smack dab in the middle of nowhere!
Okay, I really wanted to tear this off the wall + make off with it! I’m obsessed with folk art mixed with pop culture! This piece of amazing art was placed in front of the candy shop. I tried really hard not to steal it.
C’MON!!!! Spock gazing upon the prairies, the Enterprise + grain elevators?! Can it get any better than that?! NO!!!! I took a picture of this gal inside the candy shop.
After I took the picture Michelle asked, “You don’t even know what she is, do you???”. “No” I replied, “I thought she looked cute!”. “She’s a _______!!!!” Michelle chastised me, shaking her head. Wait, what? What was that again? I’m a horrible Trekkie student!!!
Lookit the local library. It has the Enterprise wearing glasses reading a book. How cute is that?!
Thanks for enduring the long post! I had to fit it all in here because you’ve got to see it to believe it. Vulcan is a town that is really proud + sincere about being the Star Trek capital of the world + I admire their hutzpah!!!! Go on with your bad self, Vulcan!!! I completely enjoyed your hospitality + joie de vivre!!! Here, here!!!
Wait a second! I hope there is a part 2 to this blog! Spock is my favorite (in both the old and new series/movies)! More pics from Spock Days please! And glad to hear Meg’s is feeling much better👍😊 Love and miss you! Ashley
I pressed “publish” by mistake!!! Yes there is much, much, much more Trekkie goodness to be had!!!

An Andorian!!! That’s right – I’m the worst! Thanks for going with me too! It was a fun filled day!!!!
This is so cool and you had a great time. 🙂 My mum would love this. She grew up watching the dubbed versions of old Star Trek in India. I am more a Star Wars girl.

Take it easy dad, don’t get all mobster on me! No the press didn’t say anything at all, it’s just that every time I’d have my lens focused on something a press guy would constantly pop out of nowhere + step in my shot! Michelle + I were getting really irritated to say the least! Yeah Vulcan is a really random little prairie town! Miss ya!
Shelli comes by regularly and gives me encouragement with her “likes”. I’m sure Shelli has no idea how valuable that is to me! Thanks shelli!

Great that Megumi is better now. That is really relieve . Mommy asked the Beth Emmunah congregation to pray for Meg. Praise God.
Please give the supplements to Megu which I sent to you.
Love you,
Mommy,
I’m actually kind of speechless. All I can say is that I never knew. I will definitely share this on my FB page because I have a few Trekie friends.
Please share!!! Luv, luv!!!!!
I need to get me one of those onesie Vulcan suits. So flattering. hahaha
Space suits are always VERY unforgiving, aren’t they???!!!!
Very interesting; I never knew about this. I’m a huge trekkie and Spock is my favorite. Is this an annual event? If so, I’ll have to attend one year!
YES!!! It’s an annual event! It’s been happening for 21 years! You must make the trek out there – it’s worth it, the town of Vulcan is VERY proud of their Star Trek heritage!
Must. Go. Must. See.
You. Must.
