Buddy Emergency

It’s the worst feeling in the world when you’re non-speaking buddy is sick + you have no idea why.
What to do???? My sweet little kitty Megumi hasn’t been eating for a couple of days + has been moderately lethargic. All the veterinary clinics were closed on Sunday so I had to drive her 45 minutes into “town” to an emergency clinic.
Thank god it wasn’t something REALLY serious or that 45 minute drive would have been excruciating for her! I can’t imagine what it was like in the old days when folks had to send for a country doctor + then wait hours for his arrival!!!
I took her to Fish Creek 24 Hour Pet Hospital. It was first come first serve – the waiting room was packed full, but I didn’t have to wait too long. They weren’t sure what was causing her to not eat but gave her some shots for dehydration + appetite stimulants. Boy were they nice + INEXPENSIVE!!! I knew Canadian healthcare was cheap, but I didn’t realize the same went for animal healthcare!!!
It’s said that cat owners are less lonely + have higher morale than those who don’t have a cat – kitty cuddling releases oxytocin, the body’s “love” hormone!!! Being a transplant to a new country, it’s hard to meet new friends – especially more difficult since I’m not allowed a work permit! She’s my little pal!!! Megu is still not eating very much, so I made her an appointment at a local doctor tomorrow – when cats don’t eat it becomes really hard on their kidneys, which could cause some mejor problemas. Wish us luck!!!
Other than that, ain’t nothing much is happening here in the country!!! Except for cattle drives!!! I was driving on errands + I saw homemade signs reading, “Caution Cattle Up Ahead”. I was like, “huh?”. Durrrrrr!!!!
All the locals were like, “Urrrrgh, I gots to be somewhere!”. I was like, “Weeeee!!!! Lookit all the moo moos!!!! Taking pictures!!!!!”.
What a tourist!!! Anyway, there hasn’t been much adventuring around these parts because the weather’s been wet + soggy. Here’s some pictures from Jeff at his job on “Hell on Wheels”.
Eeeeeew. Um, no thank you. He comes home from work at night dragging his muddy self in…
Here’s a picture of the horizon today on my drive home.
Yeah I took the picture on the road!!!! Don’t worry, it’s the country!!! Ain’t nothing but straight lines for miles!!!!
Well y’all that’s the word from this part of the world! Hope you’re week has been off to a smashing start!
Hi Shel,
I am praying for Megumi’s health. Poor Megumi!
Daddy was same when he was filming the movie covered with mud all over his cloth and shoes and sometimes he came home with pupcorns in his cloth and hair when the movie was shooing the pupcorn prop.
Great photos!
Love you and miss you,
Thanks Mom – Megumi needs your prayers!!! “pupcorn” – good Engrish, Mom!!! Jeff really liked your comment! Love you very much!
Nooo! I’m praying for Megu! She’s going to be alright, I just know it! I really hope she starts eating again soon. I know how you feel. Worrying about my cats make me sick!
PS: special FYI did you know lilies are fatally toxic to cats? Even the pollen can KILL a cat? The more you know! Be careful.
Thanks so much!!!!!! Yeah, I’ve heard about the lily factor with cats – thanks for reminding me! I know, I keep thinking, did Megu eat something weird around the house? But we don’t have any indoor plants + she can’t get into the garbage or anything!
I’m super glad you already knew about that bit on lilies! I’ve had cats all my life and I only learned about that last year! Can you believe it? Whew. Glad I know now too but I seriously remind everyone I know! xoxo for Megu!
XOXOXOXO!!!!

I LOVE IT OUT HERE!!!!! Jeff is crazy exhausted!!! He worked on Saturday + Sunday, had to get up at 4am on Monday + did a 17 hour workday! AND on top of that he has to drive an hour to location!!!! So crazy…I would be ripping people’s faces off at this point!
Awww, poor kitty! Hope she feels better quickly! Luckily she has a mum who’s on the ball!
Oh, MUDDY HoW PHOTOS, how I love you! (collapses into a pile of fangirl goo)
🙂
Thanks Michelle, us kitty mums are on top of it! Jeff wants me to come to set today sooooooo bad – they’ve built an Indian village. I’m like “Keep me away from sets!!!!”.
Poor Megumi! Maybe she’s just stressed; you guys have been doing a lot of running about lately. Mooshy hugs!!!
I know, poor little thing! I just took her to the local vet + bloodwork is good, vitals are good – now we’re thinking it may be ulcers!!! She is a really nervous cat + has had stomach problems in the past! I will give her extra extra hugs from you!!!!
poor kitty! hope she’s doing better!!
i know all about the work-permit blues. i couldn’t work for the three years i lived in san diego and it was hard! you never know how hard it is to make friends in a new place until you have that experience…anyway, hope you’re not feeling too lonely:)
Yeah, not being able to work is strangely isolating! I lived in Los Angeles my whole life, so this is the first time I’ve ever had to make new connections! I appreciate the sympathy! How’s Vancouver treating you?!
it sucks living in such a small town, too, because it’s harder to do things like join sports teams or volunteer. you have so many fewer options! i’m loving vancouver, it’s finally warm and sunny and life just feels so good. yesterday i had a picnic at grandview park and it was such bliss to sit out in the sun with a good friend eating cherries and visiting. are you enjoying alberta?
Eating cherries in the park on a sunny day in the Pacific Northwest!? Sounds DRRRREAMY!!! I am completely loving Alberta! Jeff + I were her last summer as well + I dig the prairie + the open sky! When I get back to Vancouver in September we should meet up for coffee + compare notes!
yes, it would be so fun to meet up and chat! anyway, alberta is lovely in the summer – it’s my favourite season there (but is there really an alternative)? today i was reading an article about calgary and it kind of made me twinge with a bitersweet feeling. sometimes i do miss that vast sky and the rolling fields.
