California to Nevada to Utah

I’m going to try + make this a marathon post!  Jeff + I have officially left Los Angeles on Friday morning + we have now begun our road trip to Calgary!  I’m so very tired + ready to hit the hay – pronto!

Goodbye my sweet family!!!!  I’m going to miss them like crazy!  They’ve been nothing but patient + generous – Jeff + I barely made it out of LA, it was chaos central trying to pack outta there!!!!

How d’ya like Jeff + my dad in their respective Aloha shirts?!  Da kine!

On the road I saw these at a gas station:

You add beer, voila instant lime + chile flavors!!!!  I DEFINITELY won’t be able to find that in Canada!!!

We visited the Harvey House “Casa del Desierto” in Barstow.  Harvey Houses were a series of railroad lunch houses, hotels + rest stops created for traveling railway passengers.

All aboard!!!!

Onward to Las Vegas, homies.  Jeff forced me to take this picture.  Standard Vegas.  HO HUM I SAY!!!!

Ho hum, indeed!

I made reservations at California Casino near Fremont in North Las Vegas!!!  Woot woot!!!  Somewhere someone had told me that this was the casino where all the Hawaiians came to gamble, so of course I wanted to stay here!  Oh heck!  YOU BET IT IS!!!!

Shaka!!!!

We went to “Aloha Specialties” in the casino for Hawaiian plate lunch.

Num-num menu!!!!

Jeff’s Aloha Bento plate – these meals fed us for lunch AND dinner!

Later in the evening we were driving around + came upon Frankie’s Tiki Room.  We wanted to check this place out but sort of forgot about it – so it was fate that we randomly happened to come upon it!

Jeff was in Tiki heaven.

Totally intense.

This morning we rushed our butts over to the “Neon Boneyard”.

Jeff was pretty much peeing his pants – he was so excited that he was walking around all quiet + stiff like a robot.  Like pretty much how I was acting around the wolves.

It was hot as the dickens out.  The tour was really informative – the guide went into an in depth history of Las Vegas + the evolution of neon.  I highly recommend it.  We made a last visit to Aloha Specialties + then drove 2 1/2 hours to Zion, Utah.

Zion Park Motel is right in the thick of “downtown”.  I love it’s retro architecture.  It was so scorching out, that we went into the park around 7pm for a short hike.

Mr. Mule Deer takin’ it easy in the grass.

We plan on hiking more of the park tomorrow, that is to be sure.  Later in the evening when we were walking around town, we found these sweatshirts in the 60% off section.

So sweet.  The young miss at the register was like, “Who’s Tiffany?  And who’s that guy?”.  Oh sigh.  It made me tired trying to explain it to her.  Alright, SO ready for sleep!!!!  See you tomorrow!!!
