I Miss Living In Little Tokyo/Downtown

Hi everyone!!! Now that work is winding down, I have the energy to venture out of my house in the valley + not act like a Hobbit. The drive to Little Tokyo where I used to reside for 4 years took me an hour in the car. Yay, Los Angeles!
Oh, how I miss living in downtown. First on the agenda was a much needed haircut. Yesterday my friend at work said, “Shelli. Your hair looks like crazy hippie art teacher hair.”. “Thank you!” I responded. I thought it was a compliment. She corrected me, “No, your hair is getting WAY too long.” Oh. I thought crazy hippie art teacher was a good thing. I think she meant this:
I still don’t see anything wrong with it.
When I saw Kayo, my hair stylist she said, “Oh! I haven’t seen you in forever! Yes!!! We have to cut your hair!! It’s way too long, you look like Sadako!”. “HAHA!” I laughed even though I had no idea who Sadako was. “She’s the creepy girl from ‘The Ring’ with the long, stringy hair that crawls out of the well!” Kayo explained. Awesome. Thanks Kayo.
I’m not posting a full photo of Sadako because it’s going to scare the bejeesus out of you all over again, like it did to me when I saw the movie + looked at pictures of her on Google images. There’s a reason I’ve only seen “The Ring” once. Once is enough.
Nevertheless, I was being compared to a dirty hippie or a dead ghost girl who had been stuck in a well. Point taken, friends. Time for a trim.
After, I met some costumer friends for lunch at my favorite Japanese diner Kouraku! It’s a little hole-in-the-wall + always tastes like yummy, warm home cookin’.
Yes!!!! They have the plastic food display out front! Legit!!!
Hit the spot on a gloomy Los Angeles day. Next, we headed over to The Brewery Artwalk. It’s an old Pabst Blue Ribbon brewery that now houses artistes + their studios. As we were walking into the complex, my homie Kim screamed, “IT’S YOU!!!!!!”. Who, you ask? Why, it was Sexy Sax Man, of course!!! Who else?! He’s this dude that plays the intro to Wham’s “Careless Whisper” on his sax + makes random appearances around L.A.
Last year, Kim + I were stuck in a tiny office together + she was OBSESSED with this YouTube video:
Throughout the day, while we were working, she’d play this video on her computer + I’d hear her chuckle to herself, “Huh huh huh”. Man, she was overjoyed to meet Sexy Sax Man. AND he played his sax for us!!! By the way, he let us know that he now has an IPhone app. Of course he does. Who doesn’t?!
We visited our boss/friend Bob Morgan’s home/studio to partake in some spirits + enjoy his art.
Back to Little Tokyo after Artwalk for some serious retail damage. It’s easy to drop a significant amount of cash in Little Tokyo on a lot of small, cute Japanese things. Fun times, today ladies. Much thanks!
Hi Shel,
When you are not working on the movie 14,15 hours a day you are so funny. Please do not lose your fun and creativity.
