Southern Cali Fiesta (pt.2)

Part two of Discover Los Angeles! Last weekend, Deb + Canmore Karen were still visiting from gloomy, chilly Canada.
We decided to enjoy the over-stimulating freak show that is Venice Boardwalk.
Don’t they look like a picture from a, “Come Visit Beautiful Venice Beach!” brochure?
Jeff had to have a bacon wrapped hot dog. They’re more juicy + plump if you get them from the carts in the downtown garment district! The guy in back is telling me, “Hey lady! Quit taking pictures for your s0-called “blog” + come get your darned churro!!!”. If you’ve never had a churro, go get one! They are fried pastry dusted in sugar + cinnamon. Que rico!!!! By the way, doesn’t Jeff’s new haircut look great?!
Awesome street performers that were drumming their hearts out + the quintessential skateboarder cruising by. Aaaaah, California!
Jeff forced us to take a picture in front of the Van Gogh wall like a bunch of tourists. But it turned out to be a real nice photo. Look at the height difference – like stacking dolls! Haha! And of course, I’m the only one not looking at the camera.
We had to get out of Venice, because after awhile, the people watching makes you say, “Oh, the humanity!” to yourself. Too many drum circles + speedos. Later that evening, we gussied up for dinner at Rustic Canyon. But first, we stopped for a little retail therapy. These shoes are VERY practical in Canada. Deb + Karen both picked up a pair. I jest.
Dinner was extremely good! We dined family style on prawns, hangar steak, confit pork belly, + gnocchi. Sorry folks, no pictures. It is super low lit in the restaurant + the pictures were horrible with a flash.
On Sunday before Deb + Karen’s flights back to Canada, we went to the Long Beach Antique Market. The hoarder in Jeff was driving him into a tizzy. Karen took off on her own with Deb because she knows Jeff really well + he has to touch + examine EVERYTHING. One of the symptoms of hoarder OCD. She was like, “See ya! I gotta motor!” Karen has immaculate taste + is a woman that knows what she wants!
ZOOM IN…..LOOK AT THE INTENSITY ON THAT FACE!!! Scary. Concentrating so hard! Don’t mess with that face! That is the Jeff at a thrift store/flea market face.
This is what I hope to look like when I’m retired.
Here’s Karen examining African beads.
After the flea market, we drove the ladies straight to the airport. Sniff sniff. We had such a great time being tourists in Los Angeles! It made me have a real appreciation for my city seen through fresh eyes. I was sad to see them both go, + I hope we will all be together again soon! Those ladies know how to have a good time!!! Thanks Deb + Karen!!!! I miss you!
A great reminder of our great weekend together … sniff, sniff. Shelli, you do realize that you have set the bar now and me and Karen want to have a re-do next year in L.A.?! Maybe sans the views of men in soiled speedos on Venice Beach though …
love Deb
Juna and I are playing tea party right now, i asked her if it was hot and she said “no yours is wine”…good lord. Had a great time and cant wait to see you two again.
That is HILARIOUS!!!!! That Juna is so smart!!!!
